The Perfect Woman
Inspired by broken Greek statues, The Perfect Woman confronts the objectification of the female body through the male gaze. A perfect woman is one without a mind--a headless statue with a perfect body.
The Fruit of the Underworld
The Fruit of the Underworld explores the tale of Persephone's loss of innocence. Persephone's story is something every woman can relate to--being catcalled or approached by a man way older than us while we were children.
The statement, “Mother Earth raised the Queen of Hell,” seeks to remind women that anger tells you when a boundary has been violated. Mother Nature reacts to men abusing power by sending natural disaster. She is not passive.
Persephone eating the pomegranate sealed her fate as Queen of the Underworld. However, this newfound power reminds us of one thing:
Embrace your “darkness” and protect your inner child in a world cornering you into victimhood.
The Serpent and the Sea
The Serpent and the Sea confronts the dynamic between Medusa and Poseidon in conjunction to how victims of assault are treated when they come forward about their trauma. Medusa was a scorned woman and her trauma led her to become a "monster."
Turning men to stone is her trauma response and an act of protection. It offers a new perspective--an angry woman is most likely a hurt woman.
